Ego

This is a short video made with the intent to experiment with animated video and explore a reoccurring theme in my art: “the word bubble”.

Having been an avid fan of comic books, the word bubble is a familiar image. It’s symbolism became a topic of interest following a persnoal idea for a comicbook. The approach I took to this comic book was to never have the main character visually appear. However, his “word bubbles” would point towards each panel edge. This created a very fun philosophical, and visual tactic that I am sure will continue to poke it’s head from time to time.

The title of the video — “ego” — represents the reality of our need to be heard. It is said that people will only reach eternal happiness after stripping themselves of “ego” or their “false-selves”, imposed by live’s limitations. As such, stripping the urgent need to be heard in order to be fulfilled.

In this video I try to dab into the strains and pains words — or more importantly, thoughts — play in social lives. The urge to be heard can be troublesome, and the need to be understood can be a painful emptiness that goes unanswered.
